MARN is pleased to announce a Call for Art for “Catch the 22”, the 2022 Annual MARNmembers Exhibition. Applicants must be MARN CREATIVE or CREATIVE BUSINESS Members in good standing before the call closes to qualify. The Annual MARNmembers Exhibition is a platform to showcase the thriving studio practices of our visual art members located in the Southeast Wisconsin region.

As we enter the new year of 2022, time feels both stretched and condensed, a duality mirroring the multiples of twos in the numerical year. The exhibition title “Catch the 22” is derived from the term “catch-22”, a paradoxical situation from which an individual cannot escape because of contradictory rules or limitations. The term was coined by Joseph Heller in his 1961 novel “Catch-22”. However, the term is slightly altered replacing the ‘dash’ and in turn, implying a strife toward resolve.

MARN seeks members to submit up to 3 works completed within the last two years for consideration. Themes may include but are not limited to: paradox, absurdity, duality, push and pull, unexpected outcomes, opposite of intention, contradicting rules or limitations, and strife toward capturing time. 2D work must be no larger than 24” wide, and 3D work must fit within a 24” by 24” footprint. It is recommended that submissions consist of work that can be ready for installation within a week.
