Frequently Asked Questions

What is MARN?

The Milwaukee Artist Resource Network, or MARN, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping local artists get seen and get paid. MARN does this through hosting workshops led by experienced local artists, paying local artists to display their work in our gallery, and through our creative center, the MARN ART + CULTURE HUB.

What is the MARN ART + CULTURE HUB?

The MARN ART + CULTURE HUB is a creative center, where local artists congregate and create in the field of visual arts, performing arts, fashion, coffee, or whatever else Milwaukee artists are creating. Inside, the MARN ART + CULTURE HUB is a gallery and exhibition hall, space for speaking events and performing arts, a conference room and innovation studio available for rent, and COFFEE + WINE by Interval. It is located in the Historic Third Ward at 191 N. Broadway, on the traditional Potawatomi, Ho-Chunk and Menominee homeland where the people of Wisconsin’s sovereign Anishinaabe, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Oneida and Mohican nations remain present

How long has MARN been serving Milwaukee?

MARN has been serving the Greater Milwaukee area since it secured its nonprofit status in 2002, after a three-year assessment of local artists’ needs by the Wisconsin Arts Board and Urban Artist’s Initiative.  Since then, MARN has been dedicated to supporting creatives in the Southeast Wisconsin region. MARN’s primary focus has been to provide local artists with the resources needed to cultivate a local, sustainable art practice with the capacity to engage national and international markets. MARN’s programming combines adult education with career-building opportunities for critical dialogue, business development and public engagement.

What kind of art/artist does MARN serve?

MARN strives to support local artists, from emerging to established. The main focus of the non-profit is to create a platform for exchange between artists through networking, workshops, exhibitions, and more. MARN believes in being a platform for artists of all backgrounds and experiences to get the exposure and resources necessary to take their practice to the next level.

How can someone get involved with MARN?

The best way to get involved with MARN is to become a member! Members of MARN enjoy benefits ranging from eligibility for members-only exhibitions to discounts on facility rental, with multiple levels and price points depending on what services you are interested in. However, if you are not a member, you are always welcome to visit the MARN ART + CULTURE HUB to meet local creatives and see what Milwaukee’s creative scene is all about.
