Emma Southard is a junior in illustration with a minor in communication design at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD). They take a mixed media approach to their art and design and there is never any shortage of color in their work. They are attracted to bold textures and daring patterns and incorporate these elements and principles to explore their youth and delve deep into a space of play.

They have experience as a TA at MIAD’s pre-college program and take pleasure in helping others find their spark. They have a desire to explore museum studies and will be working at The Hamilton Type Museum in Two Rivers as an intern this upcoming summer. Through their service learning program spring semester 2022, they will be helping out at MARN by creating new graphic design assets for the MARN community to benefit from. Their illustrations will also be featured on MARN’s social media and seen in and around MARN’s storefront on North Broadway. Emma is a gallery assistant at the Frederick Layton and Brook Stevens galleries on MIAD’s campus and is excited to be expanding their skillset and learning best practices at MARN ART + CULTURE HUB setting up and taking down exhibitions.
