Experience MARNmentorship in action

  • Marn Art + Culture Hub 191 North Broadway Milwaukee, WI, 53202 United States (map)

Typically, the magic of MARNmentorship happens behind closed doors. The studio visits, the one-on-one meetings, and the artistic breakthroughs are things that are experienced by the mentors and mentees, but not seen by the public.

However, this month MARN is hosting a series of events at the MARN ART + CULTURE HUB where you can learn more about the program, as well as to showcase all that our mentors and mentees can do.

On May 20 at 2pm, we’ll be hosting a Mentee Showcase and TalkBack featuring current mentees Kimberly Burnett, Maria Alfario, Andrew Megow, Amal Azzam and cRegloria, with performances by current mentors Katie Avila Loughmiller and Maria Gillespie.

On May 24 at 5:30pm, Fanana Banana co-founders Amal Azzam (a current mentee) and Nayfa Naji are leading an “Intuitive Paint Workshop” that will guide participants on how to create freely and without judgment, allowing their inner expressions and emotions to unfold. The workshop takes place from 5:30 to 7:30pm and includes a mixer afterward.

On May 28 at 10am, current mentees Kimberly Burnett and Tracy Nickolaus are leading an “Expressive Charcoal Self Portrait Workshop”, where you can learn the charcoal drawing process and make your own self portrait.

The workshop is open to all adults with any level of drawing experience, and takes place from 10am to noon.

These events are a perfect opportunity for those interested in applying to the program to learn more. The application for the 2023-’24 cohort is open!

Please consider supporting the MARNmentorship program and these artists, purchasing the artist book, postcard or poster is a donation to the program and a way to preserve its legacy. The book will also be sent out to a handful of libraries across the US that feature artist book collections.
