Block printing is one of the oldest forms of textile printing. Block printing uses wooden blocks that are hand-carved by artisans in India, to use as stamps to create prints on fabric.
Teacher Biography:
Ammu is the creative force behind House of Amu, a home decor brand that beautifully blends modern design with traditional Indian craftsmanship. Inspired by her mother, who taught her the art of hand embroidery and the beauty of textiles, Ammu has a lifelong passion for textiles and the stories they tell.
Having lived in Oman, India and now in Wisconsin, I’ve always been inspired by the vibrant cultures and traditions around me.
Each piece at House of Amu tells a story, celebrating India’s rich heritage through techniques like hand block printing and weaving while reimagining them with a contemporary twist. As a self-taught designer without a formal fashion background, I’ve embraced the freedom to carve my own creative path, infusing authenticity and individuality into every design.
At its core, House of Amu is about honoring the beauty of Indian artisanship while making it accessible and relevant for design-savvy homes around the world. It’s my way of celebrating heritage, creativity, and the joy of handmade art.
