MARNmentorship Artist Book: Practice in Progress

  • Marn Art + Culture Hub 191 North Broadway Milwaukee, WI, 53202 United States (map)

Support the MARNmentorship program and dig into each artist with this locally printed limited edition artist book- “Practice in Progress.”

With 16 artist pairings, it was clear that there needed to be a significant archive of the elaborate rich connections that were fostered during the 2022-2023 program year. Each mentor + mentee wrote a poetic reflection that leads us into their work and practices. Programming photography printed on vellum paper opens each pairing featuring the mentees attending professional development workshops, studio visits with all the mentors, and mixers.

The program has focused on the mentees developing a lifelong artist practice and fostering space for experimentation, risk-taking, and above all– making on a consistent basis. “Practice in Progress” serves as a poetic timeline celebrating all 32 artists. Out of the 200 copies there are 25 signed by the entire cohort!

The book launched in tandem with the exhibition, running April 14 to June 4 2023, showcasing the 16 mentors and 16 mentees artworks in a variety of mediums, including sculpture, movement, printmaking, fiber, painting, video, installation, and photography. There is a slew of programming to come out to and can be found here: Practice in Progress. The artist book is not a catalog of the show rather an expansion of the show and showcases additional works, ideas, and background to each artist.

Please consider supporting the program and these artists, purchasing the artist book, postcard or poster is a donation to the program and a way to preserve its legacy. The book will also be sent out to a handful of libraries across the US that feature artist book collections. Come out to MARN ART + CULTURE HUB to get your copy and see the exhibition!

Special shout out to @adam.ossers for design, @loisbielefeld for production, @amy_cannes for art direction, and @thebinderymke for printing this beauty.
